Terminology
A fundamental consideration is that these young people have been failed by school and traditional learning environments. Hence, they tend to reject the notion of school. Thus, we avoid use of school-like semantics when describing who we are and what we do (i.e teacher, tutor, student, lessons).
• The young people are called ‘Researchers’
• Learning content is provided by ‘Experts’
• Online facilitation is provided by ‘Mentors’ who are all trained teachers. Mentors work with no more than 6 researchers at a time.
